FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
.

What do you hope to achieve?

We hope to achieve a scenario where communities aren't so reliant on corporate presence to sustain themselves. Small-town America is dying because local businesses are being quashed by major corporations with unchecked power, and commercial trade is restricted to unpredictable financial exchanges. Local communities are relying on sponsors rather than their citizens to sustain themselves, which leads to an unbalanced control of local government and access to public resources.

Why do you hate money?

We don't hate money. On the contrary, we love money! But the system within which our money operates is becoming notoriously unreliable, and the value of our money is changing on a daily basis. All the while, the systems that helped our communities survive through past financial hardships are being erased or forgotten. We want to raise awareness of alternative options to the exchange of legal tender, and re-center the value of collaboration for joint survival.

Isn't trade and barter outdated?

If you think about it, the trade and barter system has survived far longer than the modern exchange of currency. In fact, in certain parts of the world, the trade and barter system works better, even today. The practice of haggling and negotiating started with the trade and barter system because it required both parties involved to come to a joint understanding of the value of their own goods. That kind of spending power is lost when the person determining the prices of modern products is so far removed from the exchange taking place.

What does skilled labor have to do with your mission?

The exchange of services, not just goods, is a crucial part of the trade and barter system. But access to basic trades is becoming increasingly obscure as their value is overlooked by commercial outsourcing, overconsumption, and cheap conveniences, and the knowledge that helps those trades survive is not being passed down. We hope to intervene by restoring the value of trade crafts and immortalizing the knowledge of skilled laborers so it can be passed down to the next generation.

How can I help?

The best way to help us with our mission is to become an active participant in our community! Engage with us on social media and join our Discord server so you too can get access to our resources, get the first scoop on organization updates, and hear about our new initiatives. But if you are interested in doing more, you can become a donor with our Dignified Angels program, or we could use your financial support to contribute to internal costs like document processing fees. And if you are interested in volunteering, you can reach out to any of the mods on the server or through the contact email on our "Contact Us" page.
